Vaccines

This is a serious subject, especially with ridgebacks,

PLEASE tell your vet that the following requirements are those of your breeder, so that he/she doesn’t argue with you. Most vets are not very familiar with ridgebacks and their special needs regarding vaccines.

Frequency Of Vaccines
We require that the new owner of the puppy always agree that throughout the puppy/dog’s lifetime the puppy/dog is NEVER given more than one of the following vaccinations per vet visit, and that they are scheduled at least two weeks apart from each other (take this list to your vet
and tell them that this is what your breeder requires, so that they will understand.): Feel Free to give the vet, my contact details!

  • Canine distemper-adenovirus type 2 – parainfluenza-parvovirus canine coronavirus Vaccine (before one year of age) or Canine distemper-adenovirus type 2 – parainfluenza-parvovirus canine coronavirus
Vaccine leptospirosis (after one year of age)
  • Lyme
  • Giardia
  • Rabies

Vaccines On/Around The Neck & Ridge
Most veterinarians don’t know very much about Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Please do not allow your vet to vaccinate or inject your puppy ON, NEAR or at the TOP of its ridge and spine. The path of the needle can cause a condition that appears like dermoid sinus. Remember, No injections anywhere on the ridge or ridgeline.
